Conversations from my heart to yours Do you ever wonder if...? Is it just me or is everything just a little off this week?

Is it just me or is everything just a little off this week?

I was sitting at my desk this afternoon and decided to enjoy a mint.  Typically I do not bite down on them, but  today was different.  Hmm I thought, that is not just the mint in my mouth, I think it is my tooth, or at least a part of it.  Jeez, I just broke a molar which I believe already had micro fractures caused by my terrible nightly teeth grinding habit.  The dentist mentioned to me during an emergency visit on July 26th I should start using a night guard.  Well, she was right, but my tooth gave in before I could be fitted for a permanent guard.

You may ask why I mentioned the 26th, well that is the first day of the current cycle of Mercury in retrograde, a day when it seems for me that a few things started feeling a tiny bit off….  I could have chalked it up to life happening but wait, there is more!

My son and I returned from the gym on the 27th and his car made a sound that we have never heard before, needless to say it sees the car doctor tomorrow.  Mercury in retrograde?

Maybe!  I hear Mercury does rule electronics and his car is an electric hybrid.

I know Mercury in retrograde gets a bad rap for causing utter chaos but this has just not been my week!  On Saturday, I had just finished a three-hour meeting, loaded my car to go home to relax and was greeted by the sound of doom, “click” instead of the comforting hum of my engine.  Indeed, the click was a bad sign.  I opened the hood to find the positive post on my battery completely encrusted with battery acid, which had eaten away most of the metal on the contact.  Mind you, I just had the car serviced four weeks ago, with an all clear report.  The Lexus dealer was very accommodating and had us back on the road within the hour.  Thankfully, we made it into the service bay 15 minutes before they closed for the weekend.

I was delighted to finally get home from the car dealer to relax in my pajamas and watch Hallmark’s Christmas in July, only to find out that the upstairs air-conditioning unit had tripped off again! Second time since the 26th,  I’m just saying!  A quick sweep of the drain pipe had us back in business both times.  I enjoyed my glass of wine and the holiday movie marathon Saturday night.

Today during my evening commute home I heard a thud, felt a forceful bump and started losing control of my car.  Looking down at the dash I notice the tire pressure indicator light glowing bright orange.  Yep, I had a flat.  I looked in the mirror and noticed one of my co-worker following quite closely behind me so I avoided breaking too abruptly while I navigated to the side of the road.  Instead of being upset, I exclaimed, “Mercury in Retrograde has struck again!”  AAA had me back on the road within two hours and right before the evening monsoon storm hit.

Now this may all sound like complaining but honestly I am in a good place.  Each instance of something falling apart caused me to slow down a bit, something most of my friends and family will tell you I needed to do anyway.  I also recognize that in each circumstance I was blessed to have the resources to resolve the issue.  In short, Mercury in Retrograde this season is teaching me gratitude and patience.

When my battery died, I was able to spend extra time with my daughter and grandson.  Today while I waited for AAA my son came by the parking lot to make sure I was fine and waited with me while the driver put extra air in my spare and installed it.  I was able to get my car to a safe spot, while avoiding hurting myself and others in the process.

Tomorrow, I am going to the dentist to have my tooth repaired and to the tire shop to replace the brand new tire I had just bought two months ago, which is still under warranty.  It is all good.  Mercury in Retrograde, I am ready to slow down for you.
