Soul Circle

I am a hoarder of sorts.  A collector of memories to be exact.  Priceless moments spent with those who hold a special place in my heart.  My soul circle is composed of family members and friends I trust with my truth. Ladies and gentlemen with whom I can be vulnerable.  Friends who tell the truth even when I do not really want to hear about myself.  On occasion we gather together as a larger group but most often we connect one-on-one.  Breakfast for a birthday, dinner to talk about new business ventures, spa days to relax and catch up, road trips to wine country, volunteering together.

Connecting with my soul circle renews my spirit.  Having people in my life who care about my health and well-being is incomparable to material things.  I was thinking about Maslow’s hierarchy of needs the other day (yep I’m a geek) in particular the concept of self-actualization, which rests at the top of the pyramid.  I’m kind of feeling like I am perched at the top, no longer chasing material things since they typically do not provide me with lasting satisfaction.  Actually, as I become more “seasoned” material things feel constricting or heavy on my soul.  The desire to simplify my life and to connect with people has become more urgent.  Even my desire to serve community grows stronger.

It takes effort to cultivate a soul circle, because each person is so precious.   Some days are easier than others to nurture these relationships.  I try every day to be a worthy friend.  Occasionally I fail big but the memories and friendships are so precious to me that I remain committed to being the best I can be in the moment.

My prayer for you is a robust soul circle.  It is my opinion that we were put on this earth to connect with others.  Collecting memories and experiences that can be tightly woven into a colorful tapestry that will last a lifetime. Hoard away.
